Belal Muhammad captured the welterweight title by defeating then-champion Leon Edwards in the UFC 304 main event on July 27. He’s discovering that being the champion puts a target on your back.
Former titleholder Kamaru Usman took aim at the newly crowned champion on social media about comment made by Muhammad. He referred to Muhammad as ‘bum.’
“Alright enough of the nice guy… you were never chasing me Bum. You were barely in rankings when i dominated the division. FYI I have a win over Leon son,” Usman wrote on X.

Muhammad quickly responded to Usman and didn’t hold back. He attacked Usman’s legacy, his acting skills and his podcast
“Dominated the division ? u beat masvidal twice and went to cardio kickboxing war with colby twice (colby sucks). u were protected by ufc.. now u can barely walk… your podcast sucks ..and ur part in black panther sucked,” Muhammad replied.

Usman last fought at UFC 294 in October 2023, losing to Khamzat Chimaev via majority decision in a middleweight contest. He accepted the bout on 10-days notice. He’s lost his last three fights but could be angling for a future fight with Muhammad.
In a recent interview with TMZ, Muhammad showed interest in facing Usman.
“When I look at the division, obviously like the guy that’s the highest ranked is Shavkat [Rakhmonov], and he’s the boogeyman of the division,” Muhammad said.
“There’s also Usman right there as well,” Muhammad continued. “I know he’s on a losing streak, but legacy-wise, he was the guy that Dana White said is better than all the other champions. Dana White said he’s better than GSP [Georges St-Pierre]. So for me, it’s like, he looked good in the Khamzat fight, and he took that fight on a couple days’ notice.”
