Tony Ferguson made history in the worst type of way Saturday when his losing skid hit an octagon record eight fights courtesy of Michael Chiesa at UFC on ABC 7.
Ferguson (25-11 MMA, 15-9 UFC) saw his stunning career slide hit a further low after he suffered a first-round submission defeat to Chiesa (19-7 MMA, 11-8 UFC), and with it surpassed B.J. Penn for most consecutive defeats in the welterweight bout at Etihad Arena on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi.
After the fight, Ferguson gave an emotional speech which indicated he will retire from UFC competition.
Check below for the top X (formerly Twitter) reactions to Chiesa beating Ferguson at UFC on ABC 7.

Michael Chiesa submits Tony Ferguson in the first round in what I expect to be Ferguson’s final UFC bout.
Much love to Tony on his UFC run. One of the more interesting characters we’ve seen in the sport.

Kelvin Gastelum
One of the best to ever do it in the lightweight division.
I hope people will remember the legend of “El Cucuy” in generations to come.
One of a kind.

That was so classy of Chiesa to give Tony Ferguson the floor.
Even after breaking a losing streak where he hasn’t had mic time in the octagon for awhile, he gave Tony his moment.

Tony Ferguson is the type of guy to take his gloves off in the cage, leave one and keep one after eight losses in a row. What a Tony move lol. #UFCAbuDhabi
