When it comes to UFC fighters and politics, it can often feel like we’re stuck in a world of idiocy. And in the wake of the assassination attempt on Donald Trump, the idiocy is likely to only be heightened.
Case in point: On Sunday, UFC bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley and coach Tim Welch released a lame “If Trump Fought Biden” skit depicting Trump (Welch) knocking out president Joe Biden (O’Malley wearing a Biden mask) on Instagram.
Again, O’Malley and Welch shared this barely 24 hours removed from the shooting at a Trump rally in Pennsylvania that left the former president wounded and two dead, including gunman Thomas Matthew Crooks fatally shot by Secret Service snipers. Talk about not being able to read the room.
Yes, Trump and Biden bitterly have been at odds during this toxic presidential election cycle, but both men on Sunday expressed a desire for calm and unity in the wake of the attempt on Trump’s life.
UFC fans roasted O’Malley and Welch on social media for their untimely attempt at political humor that fell flat.
